Effective Teams/Groups

An effective group is not so much about how you choose the group, it is more important to focus on how you bond as a group. It is important to realize a few key factors that WILL happen in groups. The five stages of team development will happen! Expect and Embrace them!

  1. Forming
    • Discuss purpose and goals
    • Establish norms and expectations
  2. Storming
    • Voice differences and concerns
    • Conflicts will happen and the group needs to overcome the conflicts to create a positive atmosphere and operate successfully
  3. Norming
    • Agree on expectations, goals and norms
    • Define roles and responsibilities based on everyone’s strengths
  4. Performing
    • Assign roles and tasks
    • Build cohesion to enable collaboration, decision-making and problem solving.
  5. Adjourning
    • Building and working to maintain a positive atmosphere will allow the group to reach your goals and be able to celebrate your contributions and achievements.
