Shark Tank Project
Students will form advertising agency teams of 3-4 and develop and execute an IMC strategy designed to target a specific audience via various media channels for a Shark Tank client of the team’s choice. Students will apply concepts and theories discussed in class to this project, including: advertising and marketing research methods, audience segmentation and targeting strategies, and applicable communications and consumer behavior theories. ALL agency members are expected to make significant contributions.
Students Agencies will be allowed to select which Shark Tank company they would like to take on as their client. Around the third week of classes, each team will need to provide the instructor with an Agency Brief about their chosen client. Student Agencies will use this brief to outline the information obtained from the Shark Tank episode and company website needed for the IMC plan. Each team can also ask clarifying questions and/or missing information of the instructor at the end of the brief.
Shark Tank episodes are available for free on www.ABC.com/shows/shark-tank one week after they air for a few weeks. All episodes are available on Hulu. Individual seasons and episodes are available for purchase. I recommend you choose a product from one of the recent episodes in Season 15. Watch it and take thorough notes for your project overview, key objectives, situation analysis and current customers as well as the financial information including sales price, COGS and total sales.
The following is an outline for notes if you would like to use it.
